“What is it that you REALLY like to do?”

“Eat!”

~Paul and Julia in Julie & Julia

With that I start another food blog in my journey to become a better cook and learn with my small family about new and interesting flavors. Just like Julia, eating is one of my favorite things. Cooking goes hand in hand with eating and in a Midwest city, worldly food isn’t always available.

I am constantly inspired to cook and share my journey, not for showing how great I am or how fabulous I cook but more as a way to keep myself honest and to keep going on my many challenges to myself. I always love cooking tips and tricks, hints how to better set up this blog website and photography hints. Usually only half of what I cook turns out how I want it.

So what is Eat the World?

One of my favorite blogs on my blogroll is Global Table Adventure. The author, Sasha Martin decided to cook her way around  the world, 195 countries, 1 country per week. She decided to undergo this mission to expose her young daughter to a variety of different cuisines and learn about the world. From first reading her blog I have wanted to do the same thing. I’ve had the privilege to visit a few foreign countries in my life but there’s no way I will be able to see even a quarter of them even though I would love nothing more. A virtual and at home adventure to each country is such a great idea to learn about the world and travel without leaving my house.

So I plan to copy Sasha, a little. I plan to cook a few different dishes from each of the 195 countries in the world. While I visit each country, we’re going to learn a little about their history, language and culture. I also hope to cook dishes from my cookbook collection and a variety of healthy dishes when I come across something particularly compelling. Originally I figured 1 country a month but that could take 9 years to conquer the world. I figure I will just fit them in when I have more or less time and not try to nail down a time.

I look forward to sharing my adventure with you and I hope that you share any inspirations you have with me!
